Survivors struggle to share the truth about their experience with family members, especially if they've been exploited sexually. It often results in feelings of shame – for both the survivor and the family – and in some cultures, she risks death for bringing dishonour to the family name.
HAGAR helps families understand the survivor's trauma and how they can support her when she returns. We also organise community workshops and prepare educational materials to counter societal stigma; greater awareness increases protection against trafficking and exploitation in vulnerable communities.
